Located in Poway, CA. This backyard home was built on a large property with blended family. The Gill's son was getting married and this 750 sq. ft. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom backyard home was to be their future suite to live in after the wedding. The backyard ADU was designed to match the architecture of the existing home, with 10’ ceilings, stucco walls, barrel tile roof, and interior archways at doorway openings. We worked with the son to also come up with a more contemporary feel, particularly with the kitchen and flooring materials.
This type of backyard home is often called a granny flat, ADU, in-law-suite, studios or guest quarters. Backyard homes can be located on top of a garage, as an extension in the back yard, or as a connector between a home and detached garage, or stand alone separate unit. This type of backyard adu will maximize a family’s living space.
